Journaling is a vital source of ongoing learning and support for me.
Journaling reveals patterns in my thinking and behavior, fosters my authentic dreams, and strengthens who I am and how I am. Journaling gives me the courage to act on my dreams.
Anytime I read a book or article that catches my attention, I include the source in my journal. I include the specific words, and my reflection saying why the words speak to me. I can refer back to these notes for writing.
Journaling is not a diary. It’s not about what happened, yet can include the happening. It’s about anything I’m thinking, doing, dreaming, praying, angry about, or sad about. It’s writing about all of life.
If you want to journal, write your thoughts/words to a source of unconditional love-maybe an imaginary friend. I write mine to God.
Julia Cameron’s book, The Artist’s Way-A Spiritual Path to Higher Power entered my life in 1998. Julia talks about “Morning Pages.” I write each morning (my best time). Sometimes I write a couple of pages, other times, many pages. Julia recommends eight pages.
Once I write, I find clarity of how I really feel, or what I need to do or not do. I find that written feelings of anger and sadness lose their power that can sometimes drive me to unhealthy behavior.
Our journaling is not for anyone else to read. Our journals are our private thoughts that bring us, the human being, to be more who we are, more of who we WANT TO BE.
Your journal can be a simple spiral notebook or a special journal you make or purchase. I create a collage on the front of each new journal. I review the finished journal and HEAR what’s revealed. This leads to a more fulfilling life.
