Since publication in March 2023, I, Dawn Cogger, have
shared my story, answered questions about the story, the writing process and
publication process. Included are comments from these events.

May 2023: I met with my
own book club of the past seven years.
“When did you write this?” “I
hope you never have to do this again.”-referring to the work I did in the LTC
facility when the main water burst. “I
hurt for you. It was harder to read because I know you.” “Do you plan on returning
to where you grew up to share your book?”
May 2023: Our
(Pastor) read a dramatic portion of my book to our zoom morning devotion group
of 16 people who have met for three years. Comments included, “This could save a
life.” “Amazing.”
June 2023:
McFarland Library requested an author event.
Over 20 people attended. “Tell us
about your life.” “Why did you write the
book?” “Did you do create the cover of your book?”
June 2023: I met in person with 10 women from my Wild
Grace Group in Minnesota-they are included in my book. “I remember some of
these events; it was great to re-visit.” This from a person I worked with in
MN. “How is your family now?” Each person there also shared from their own
life.
June 2023:
Eight of my fellow nursing graduates met for an author time. “I didn’t know
this.” “I wanted to punch your mother.” “I was right with you from the
beginning, in the morgue with the baby. Your writing is amazing.”
November 2023:
I was asked to join a book club by zoom.
All attendees are in lay ministry.
We ran out of time with all the questions regarding my education and
experiences as a spiritual director. I also asked questions of them too. It was a mutual discussion. We ran out of time.
April 2024:
Another author, who wrote about his life experience of mercy and grace with a
twelve-step program and I shared a zoom offered to anyone in our church. A church member facilitated by giving each of
us time to talk about the book and read a portion, then open discussion. Seven people attended. “When did you know in the writing process
that you wanted to make it a book?” “I loved the book. It’s so real.”
May 2024: When asked, I
volunteered to speak to a group who are receiving education sessions for a
Befriender’s Ministry. One session was on grief where I provided life
experience of grief and the help I sought. Another topic was domestic abuse;
how to recognize domestic abuse and be with a person sharing their experiences. 27 people attended. Self-care was addressed. The
group leader told them I had written a book.
There were many questions about my experiences and I was asked if
writing the book was therapeutic.
