Two gatherings and book readings

On June 25, 2025 12 people gathered who are receiving education for the Befriender’s Ministry at the United Church of Christ. I was one of four presenters on the subject of depression which I have experienced and talk about in my book. I spoke about how perfectionism oppresses and leads to depression. I confirmed the power of affirmations; how they must be in the present tense. I spoke about how anger is generally felt to be unacceptable, especially with women. However; anger must be acknowledged, it tells what’s important, and can be expressed appropriately. I said that Jesus himself left the crowd at the lake to pray. We must do the same. It is self-care. I shared and the tools of collages (displayed one) and how journaling for many years has helped me find patterns, helped me be healthier.

I spoke about my memoir and my book informational cards were passed around. A couple of people asked if I’d sign the book when they got it. “Yes, I’d love to.”

On June 26, 2025, I met with 12 peers from my high school days. We were gathered at a noonday lunch, just to be together after more than fifty years. I asked to do a reading and did. The reading brought about discussion of another high school peer.

A week later, one of the attendees wrote an email to all who had been present saying he’d gotten and read my book. He added he wished he’d written one. I did respond to him personally encouraging him to start writing an essay or two to maybe start a legacy for his family.

Both these sessions were life-giving to me. I think one needs to have a podcast to get the word out about their book. Maybe some day I’ll do that with another person.
